Can a Garmin GPSMAP 5212 stay in a BlueNet upgrade?

Do not plan on it. Garmin’s current BlueNet compatibility table does not list the older GPSMAP 4000/5000 family. Garmin says an unlisted legacy Garmin Marine Network chartplotter is most likely not compatible with BlueNet and may cause poor system performance.

Practical answer: if you are replacing a GPSMAP 5212 with a current GPSMAP 9000xsv, 9000 or 9500-series BlueNet chartplotter, budget as though the 5212 itself will leave the network. A BlueNet 30 gateway should not be treated as a way to keep every old Garmin chartplotter.

Your other old Garmin equipment may be a different story

The chartplotter and the peripherals should be checked separately. For example, Garmin does list the GMR HD/xHD2 radar family for connection through a BlueNet 30 gateway. So a boat with a GPSMAP 5212 and a GMR 18 HD can reach a mixed result: the old display is not on Garmin’s BlueNet list, while the radar can still have a documented migration path.

What Garmin actually documents

Garmin’s BlueNet reference lists the legacy chartplotter families that can use the BlueNet 30 gateway. The GPSMAP 4000/5000 family is not on that table. The same reference separately lists GMR HD and xHD2 radar as gateway-compatible.

This page is intentionally narrower than a wiring guide. It does not say whether a transducer, NMEA 2000 device, autopilot component or third-party accessory can be reused. Those are separate compatibility questions.
